By Ollie Ellery On Friday, 18 August, some of our primary aged students got up early to travel all the way to Blacktown in Sydney. The day started off with the 800 metre run. We had three competitors run a good race. Next came the field events. We had three competitors get through to the next level and one reserve. We had all our relay teams work together to represent our school very well. The junior boys managed a third in their heat. The 100m dash was successful with a second place from RubyMay Pearce. Myles Condon also ran a great race.
Meanwhile, Tane Morgan was destroying the competition in the shot put ring, coming away with another second place. Another spot in the CIS Carnival!
We had some successful high jumpers! With a sensational jump of 1.29m from Caitie Schaefer who 1st place, giving us another CIS placing. A little earlier in the 12 yr boys, Ollie Ellery achieved a 4th giving himself a spot as the reserve for CIS by jumping 1.32m. Kent Ellery did qualify for the Junior boys, but was unable to compete in the event as he was sick (get well soon Kent).
When the 200m came around for the girls, RubyMay Pearce made herself known again getting the 3rd spot in the 9 yr old girls. After the boys 200m, the lunch break came around and lots of schools were out on the track practising for the relay.
After the lunch break, the boys gathered around for the 1500m event and then the girls. Following this, our Junior girls competed first (Layla Miles, Emily McLaren, Charlotte Schofield and RubyMay Pearce), followed by the Junior boys (Hamish McLaren, Jai Miles, Jeremy Preston and Joel Harlor). After that, the Senior girls raced (Caitie Schaefer, Lili Miles, Amelia Bates and Jayla Beresford) and the last was the Senior boys (Ollie Ellery, Isaac Petts, Matthew Spinks and Noah Tasker).
Overall the day was successful. We ended up with a reserve placing, a bronze, two silvers and a gold. We thank God for such a beautiful day and thank all the parents who helped on the day.

On 18 August, students from NCS went to Sydney to compete in State Athletics. We had lots of different ages competing. The first event was the 800m run. Two of our runners, Noah Tasker and Emily Mclaren did a great run, but no one managed to score a place in this tough event.
By the time the 100m sprint was called the wind was blowing quiet hard. The 100m sprint went quickly. With RubyMay Pearce getting a second place. We also managed a second place in shot put by Tane Morgan in the 12 year boys. While that was all going on, Ollie Ellery was competing in high jump for the 12 year boys. He came first at zone but was sick for State. He still managed a jump of 1.32m. Just when the boys high jump was finishing, the 12 year girls came out for their high jump. Caitlin Schaefer scored a first place in high jump and RubyMay Pearce did it again, scoring a 3rd in the 9 year old girls 200m sprint. We would have also had Kent Ellery for high jump but he was not well enough to compete.
After that, it was time for a break. There was a kiosk right near our seating area, which I am sure most of us liked.
Our relay teams went out to practice. We managed to get all our four relay teams to State. When it was time for the relays, the girls went first. In the junior girls we had, Layla Miles, Emily McLaren, RubyMay Pearce and Charlotte Schofield. Then for the senior girls there was, Caitlin Schaefer, Jayla Beresford, Amelia Bates and Lili Miles. Our junior boys team was, Joel Harlor, Jeremy Preston, Hamish McLaren and Jai Miles. Finally, it was the senior boys with Ollie Ellery, Matthew Spinks, Noah Tasker and Isaac Petts (who was doing some parkour while he waited to run). None of our relay teams made it to the CIS Athletics.
It was a great day and a big thanks to the parents who helped on the day
