On Thursday, 9 August eleven boys from Stage 2 departed Nowra at 5am for a trip to Penrith to compete in a State Football (Soccer) tournament.
Having narrowly qualified for State after scraping into second place at our Zone competition held in Term 2, the team was optimistic but realistic about their chances at the next level. The boys performed really well on the day and came very close to making it through to the first round of finals.
After a 4 - 0 loss and a 2 - 0 win, they just needed a draw or better in their final game to progress to the finals. This made for an exciting finish with the team leading 1 - 0 early but eventually going down 2 - 1 and only just missing out on a place in the finals. Daniel B made some tremendous saves as goalie whilst Joel H never stopped running and contributing in both attack and defense. Kent E put his body on the line, going down with a painful knee injury in the final moments of play as he tried his best to score an equalizer. The whole team performed admirably and maintained a positive team spirit throughout the day. A big thanks to Mrs McLennan, Mrs Bishop and Mrs Weissel who assisted with travel and supervision. Thank you as well to Mr Tasker for all your help with training and mentoring the team for the past few months.
