La Chandeleur

Once again, as we begin the new year, the French classes celebrated the annual 'Chandeleur' or pancake day. This is an opportunity to pray for blessing on the year ahead.

It is said that crepes remind people of the sun (round and golden - if well cooked!) and so in the northern hemisphere it is a reminder that warmer days are on the way after the cold of winter. They also have the tradition of holding a coin in your dominant hand while trying to flip a crepe with the other hand. If you succeed, you will have a prosperous year ahead.

However, rather than trusting our crepe-flipping skills, we will trust in our God for the year that He gives us!

Bonne Année!
